The name given to Nobel Prize winners is "Nobel Laureates". This term derives directly from the ancient greek culture, where victors were honored by wearing a laurel wreath around their heads. The greek god of war, Apollo, wears a laurel wreath himself.(Nobel Prize Facts) Winning a Nobel Prize is no common merit and some families have had more than one Nobel Laureate . The Curie family has been the most successful in the winning of Nobel Prizes, with five prices within the family . Marie Curie and her husband, Pierre Curie, won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903 for their studies in radioactivity. Later on, Marie won another prize on her own in the field of chemistry in 1911 for the discovery of the elements radium and polonium. Their daughter, Irène Joliot-Curie won the 1935 prize in Chemistry with her husband, Fédéric Joliot, for their discovery of new radioactive elements. The youngest Curie daughter, Éve, worked for UNICEF and her husband received the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of UNICEF in 1965. Besides from being a part of the family with the most Nobel Prizes, Marie Curie was the first woman to ever win a Nobel Prize, the first to win two of them, and the first to win two in different fields (Physics and Chemistry).
